Light and dark. Good and evil. Some opposites seem almost cartoon-like in their simplicity. And so it is in Burma. In this poor, benighted country there is a very stark pair of opposites at work. On one side are the generals of the ruling military junta: thuggish uniformed tyrants who have been responsible for death, oppression and misery for dozens of years. And on the other side, a single, tiny woman, a steadfast flame of purity, self sacrifice and love in the darkness that the generals have wrought. (more…)

Sometimes a lifetime of living what you believe in, passionately believing in who you are, defines a woman as inspirational.

Mother Theresa, for instance, spent almost her entire life working for what she believed in. Aung San Suu Kyi continues to do the same. For others, a brief shining moment is all it takes to become enshrined as an inspiration for all time. And that’s what happened with the US civil rights icon Rosa Parks. (more…)
